The Practical English language sessions-4 of the project “Gurkha Elder Resilience Project for North West London ‘’ by Gurkha Nepalese Welfare Society UK (GNWS-UK) and funded by National Lottery, Community Fund was held on 8th May 2024 at South Harrow Sports and Social Club. Expand vocabulary related to everyday activities and needs. Topics:

    • Food and shopping (e.g., names of common foods, how to ask for items)
    • Transportation (e.g., asking for directions, types of transportation)
    • Health (e.g., parts of the body, symptoms, making doctor’s appointments)The programme was facilitated by Ms Amrita Thapa.

Week 5-Practical English language Sessions-Three                                                

 Date: 01 May 2024

The Practical English language sessions-3 of the project “Gurkha Elder Resilience Project for North West London ‘’ by Gurkha Nepalese Welfare Society UK (GNWS-UK) and funded by National Lottery, Community Fund was held on 1st May 2024 at South Harrow Sports and Social Club. Build a foundation in basic English vocabulary and phrases. Example:

  1. Greetings and introductions (e.g., saying hello, introducing oneself)
  2. Numbers and time (e.g., telling time, days of the week)
  3. Basic expressions of needs and feelings (e.g., “I need help,” “I feel…”)

Week 4- Using Smartphones and Tablets.

Date: 27 April 2024

  • The IT awareness workshops -1 of the project “Gurkha Elder Resilience Project for North West London ‘’ by Gurkha Nepalese Welfare Society UK (GNWS-UK) and funded by National Lottery, Community Fund was held on 27th April 2024 at Royal British Legion, South Harrow. The main Objective of IT session is introducing the basics of using smartphones and tablets, focusing on Android and iOS platforms. Examples:
    • Turning on/off, adjusting volume, connecting to Wi-Fi
    • Navigating the home screen, using touch gestures
    • Downloading apps from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android)

 The programme was facilitated by Mr. David Gurung and Mr. Sujan Gurung.

The Practical English language sessions-1 of the project “Gurkha Elder Resilience Project for North West London ‘’ by Gurkha Nepalese Welfare Society UK (GNWS-UK) and funded by National Lottery, Community Fund was held on 17th April 2024 at South Harrow Sports and Social Club. The first initiative focuses on daily English proficiency to enhance community integration. The 1st Greetings and introductions (e.g., saying hello, introducing oneself), Numbers and time (e.g., telling time, days of the week) and Basic expressions of needs and feelings (e.g., “I need help,” “I feel…”).

Dance and Cultural Session-One                                                 

 Date: 13 April 2024

The first Dance and Cultural Session of the “Gurkha Elder Resilience Project for North West London” by the Gurkha Nepalese Welfare Society UK (GNWS-UK), funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, took place on 13 April 2024 at Harrow Borough Football Club, South Harrow. The project was launched on the auspicious occasion of Nepali New Year 2081 by trustee members and English and Dance instructors. The dance instructor, well-versed in traditional Gurkha dances, led a fun and interactive workshop. This session was designed to accommodate all ability levels, ensuring that everyone could participate. The programme was facilitated by Mrs. Manikala Rai Gurung.
