- Introduction
Gurkha Nepalese Welfare Society UK is a charitable organisation dedicated to the welfare and upliftment of the Nepali community residing in Northwest London, UK. In an effort to enhance the wellbeing of its senior citizen members, the Society applied for funding through the National Lottery Community Fund. Consequently, financial assistance was approved under the National Lottery Community Fund, enabling the organisation to facilitate the first initiative focuses on daily English proficiency to enhance community integration. The goal is to improve the conversational English skills; fostering stronger connections within the community. The project aims to mitigate loneliness and enhance societal integration through IT awareness workshops. The objective is to equip participants with essential IT skills; enabling them to navigate online banking; social media; and engage in effective email communication.
- Inauguration of the National Lottery Community Fund Programme:
Date: 13 April 2024 (Saturday)
Occasion: Nepali New Year 2081/2025 Celebration Programme:
On the occasion of Nepali New Year 2081, the Society officially inaugurated the National Lottery Community Fund programme. The inauguration ceremony was conducted in the presence of the following dignitaries, invited to the stage by the General Secretary, Mrs. Bimla Kumari Rai:

The dignitaries collectively performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony, thereby formally commencing the National Lottery Community Fund programme.
- Programme Overview and Activities
Following the inauguration, Chairperson Mr. Ganja Bahadur Ale briefed attendees on the purpose, scope and expected benefits of the Fund. The programme was scheduled to run every Wednesday, incorporating a range of intellectual, educational and recreational courses designed for senior citizen members. These courses were introduced gradually, based on relevance and demand.
The programme operated for approximately 49 consecutive weeks, concluding successfully on 09 September 2025. Participants expressed that the sessions were not only educational and enriching but also served as an important weekly social platform for interaction and companionship.

Educational Tour for Senior Citizens:
Date: 10 July 2024 (Wednesday)
To support the Adult Education initiative, the responsibility of organising a field educational tour was assigned to Retd. Lieutenant Mr. Tham Prasad Gurung. He successfully arranged a visit to:
Gurkha Museum, Peninsula Barracks, Winchester & Greys Farm, Wokingham.
Date: 6th August 2025.
The educational 2nd visit of the participants to the “Hitchin Lavender, Caldwell farm. Lckleford, SG5 3UA. One coach was hired for the visit and the coach hire fund covered by Gurkha Nepalese Welfare Society UK. The visit was facilitated by Trustee Member/ Senior Vice Chairperson Mrs. Bishnu Kumari Gurung and General Secretary Mrs Bimla Kumari Rai. During the visit snacks were provided to the participants.
The both tour was highly educational and historically informative, and participants described it as a memorable and meaningful experience. Senior citizen members expressed a strong desire for similar tours in the future.
- Certificate Distribution and Appreciation Ceremony
Date: 19 July 2025 ( Annual Get-Together 2025)
Senior citizen members who completed the courses were honoured with a Certificate of Participation and a traditional khada, presented by the Chairperson and Instructor Mrs. Amrita Thapa.
Date: 16 November 2025 (Sunday)
A special gathering was organised under the chairmanship of Mr. Ganj Bahadur Ale, with Retd. Captain Mr. Rukum Bahadur Rana as the chief guest. During the ceremony:
Senior citizen members who completed the courses were honoured with a Certificate of Participation and a traditional khada, presented by the Chairperson and Instructor Mrs. Amrita Thapa.
Instructor Mrs. Amrita Thapa and Senior Vice Chairperson Mrs. Bishnu Kumari Gurung were also felicitated with certificates and khada for their contributions to the programme.
The ceremony highlighted the successful completion of the programme and recognised the dedication of all involved.
5. Acknowledgement and Conclusion:
Chairperson Mr. Ganj Bahadur Ale extended sincere gratitude to all trustees, advisors, instructors, volunteers and participants who contributed to the success of the National Lottery Community Fund programme. Their continuous support ensured smooth operation from inception to completion.
The programme formally concluded with a vote of thanks to all attendees and well-wishers.

नेशनल लाटरी कम्युनिटी फण्डको उदघाटन पछि लगतै संस्थाका अध्यक्ष श्री गन्ज बहादुर आलेज्युले कार्यक्रममा उपस्थित सबैजनालाई नेशनल लाटरी कम्युनिटी फण्डको बारेमा संक्षिप्त रुपमा जानकारी दिनुका साथै यो कार्यक्रम प्रत्येक हप्ताहको प्रत्येक बुधबारको दिन गरिने छ तथा यो भित्र निम्नलिखित कोर्षहरु पर्दछन जुन समयानुकुल क्रमशै गरीनेछ भन्दै कोर्षहरुको बारेमा भन्नु भएको थियो !
यसरी मिति १३ अप्रिल २०२४ शनिवारको दिन नेशनल लाटरी कम्युनिटी फण्डको कार्यक्रमको उदघाटन पछि लगभग ४९ हप्ताहको बौद्धिक तथा शैक्षिक कार्यक्रम पश्चात मिति ०९ सेप्टेम्बर २०२५ को दिन माथि दिइएको निम्नलिखित कोर्षहरु सकिएको थियो तापनि संस्थाका ज्येष्ठ नागरिक सदस्यहरु आगामी कक्षाहरुको लागि आशावादी देखिन्थे। उनिहरुको लागि यी तालिमहरु एकदमै रोचक र ज्ञानवर्दक थियो भने हप्ताहमा एक दिन यसो साथि संगीहरु संग भेट गरी एक आपसमा भलाकुसारी गर्ने माध्यम पनि थियो।
यसरी मिति १३ अप्रिल २०२४ शनिवारको दिन नेशनल लाटरी कम्युनिटी फण्डको कार्यक्रमको उदघाटन पछि लगभग ४९ हप्ताहको बौद्धिक तथा शैक्षिक कार्यक्रम पश्चात मिति ०९ सेप्टेम्बर २०२५ को दिन माथि दिइएको निम्नलिखित कोर्षहरु सकिएको थियो तापनि यसरी नै मिति १६ नोभेम्बर २०२५ आईतबारको दिन यसै गोर्खा नेप्लिज वेलफेयर सोसाइटी, युकेका अध्यक्ष श्री गन्ज बहादुर आलेज्युकोअध्यक्षतामा तथा ज्येष्ठ नागरिक सदस्यका अध्यक्ष तथा संस्थाका सल्लाहकार रिटायर्ड क्याप्टेन श्री रुकुम बहादुर रानाज्युको प्रमुख आतिथ्यमा एउटा सानो भेटघाट कार्यक्रमको आयोजना गरेर संस्थाका ज्येष्ठ नागरिक सदस्यज्युहरुलाई जजसले निम्नलिखित कोर्षहरु लिनु भएको थियो उहाहरुलाई संस्थाकाअध्यक्ष श्री गन्ज बहादुर आलेज्यु एवं प्रौढ शिक्षाकी गुरुआमा श्रीमती अमृता थापाज्युले खादा ओढाउनु भइ सहभागी सम्मान पत्र (Certificate of Participate) दिएर सम्मान गर्नु भएको थियो। यसका साथै प्रौढ शिक्षाकी गुरुआमा श्रीमती अमृता थापाज्यु तथा संस्थाका वरिष्ठ उपाध्यक्ष श्रीमती बिष्णु कुमारी गुरुङज्युलाई पनि अध्यक्षज्युले खादा एवं सम्मान पत्र दिएर सम्मान गर्नु भएको थियो।
अन्त्यमा अध्यक्ष श्री गन्ज बहादुर आलेज्युले नेशनल लाटरी कम्युनिटी फण्डको कार्यक्रममा शुरु देखि अन्त्य सम्म सहयोग गर्नुहुने सम्पूर्ण व्यक्तित्वहरुलाई धन्यवाद दिनु भयो। गत मिति १० जुलाई २०२४ बुधबारको दिन संस्थामा आबद्ध ज्येष्ठ नागरिक सदस्यज्युहरुको लागि प्रौढ शैक्षिक भ्रमणको व्यस्थापनको लागि प्रमुख व्यस्थापकको जिम्मेवारी यसै संस्थाका ट्रष्टी सदस्य तथा सल्लाहकार रिटायर्ड लेफ्टिनेन्ट श्री थाम प्रसाद गुरुङज्युलाई दिइएको थियो र उहाले गोर्खा म्युजियम वेन्चेस्टर तथा वकिङ्गहमको ग्रेज फार्ममा (Gurkha Museum” Peninsula Barracks, Winchester र Greys Farm, Wokingham) व्यवस्था मिलाउनु भएको थियो जुन शैक्षिक भ्रमण ज्येष्ठ नागरिक सदस्यज्युहरु लगायत सहभागी हुनुहुने सम्पूर्ण सदस्यज्युहरुको ऎतिहासिक भ्रमणको रुपमा सफल भएको थियो त्यसैले उपस्थित सबैजनाले आगामी दिनहरुमा पनि यस्तै भ्रमणको अपेक्षा राख्दै विशेष धन्यवाद दिनु भयो। यसका साथै कार्यक्रममा उपस्थित सबैजनालाई धन्यवाद दिनु भइ कार्यक्रम समापन गर्नु भयो।
